What is I9?
The I-9 form is used to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must properly complete Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens.
Website Application Process:
- After you sign the background check consent form at Stage 9, you will automatically transition to Stage 10, the I-9 form.
- An SMS will be sent to you as a reminder to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form to finish their IntelyCare application.
- Once you open the link, you will be routed to the I-9 Center.
- An instructional video is added to the I-9 flow in case you need help doing the I-9 process.
- If the link expires, you will see this screen below. To request another one, click "Verify my email' or 'Send me a one-time code'.
I-9 Section 1
- You will see this screen upon entering the I-9 Stage.
- You will be guided to Step 1 after clicking the continue button.
- Previously entered data, such as your name and address, will be pre-populated.
- Fill in additional fields like gender and birthday.
- A screen will appear to Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Confirm your citizenship.
- After confirming citizenship, you will be taken to the document option section where you will be given the option of selecting from a series of acceptable documents. Based on your citizenship, the documents that are not applicable will be greyed out. You will be guided through selecting documents in list A or B and C.
- About 95% of IntelyCare applicants select a driver's license and social security card for their I-9.
- After selecting document options, you will be prompted to upload the documents. You may select from a saved file or take a photo.
- You may be prompted to enter additional details about the document, such as issuing authority or document numbers. Applicants will be prompted to repeat these steps for additional documents.
- You will be asked if the form is completed with the assistance of a preparer or translator.
- You will be required to provide an e-signature before submitting section 1.
- After section 1 is complete, you will be guided to start section 2 with your authorized representative.
- Here, you may read through what is required of your section 2 authorized representative. You will then be prompted to share your location via text message.
NOTE: If prompted with an error "We were unable to access your or your I-9 reviewer location", select the option 'Begin QR code scan' and follow the on-screen instructions. - Enter the mobile number of your section 2 reviewer.
- You will be stopped if they attempt to enter your own number. Your I-9 reviewer cannot be yourself.
- Your section 2 reviewer will then receive a text message guiding them through completing the next steps. You are given an opportunity to provide information for a different section 2 reviewer if needed.
- At this point, you have completed your portion of the I-9. However, you will remain in the I-9 center stage until section 2 of the process is complete.
I-9 Section 2
- After receiving a text, the Section 2 reviewer will click on this screen to begin the process. The Section 2 reviewer will begin by entering their full name.
- They will then be brought to a screen where they can review the applicant's documents submitted during Section 1.
- Select yes for all options and click continue to be brought to the next document. Follow the same steps for the next document.
- Lastly, add an e-signature and complete the verification process.
- Click on 'Complete Verification,' and a completion screen will appear. At this point, all steps of the I-9 are completed, and you will auto-transition to the next stage.
What are the acceptable I-9 documents?
- You must provide documentation to verify their identity and authorization to work. You can enter List A documents or List B and C documents.
- List A documents show both identity and employment authorization. Employees presenting an acceptable List A document should not be asked to present any other document. Some List A documents are, in fact, a combination of 2 or more documents. In these cases, the presented documents count as one List A document.
- List B documents establish only identity. Employees who choose to present a List B document must also present a document from List C for Section 2.
- List C documents are documents that establish Employment Authorization.
