What is a Compact License?
- The Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) allows nurses to have one license to practice in multiple states. There are currently 42 jurisdictions which have enacted NLC legislation, meaning they recognize the multi-state license or have such legislation pending.
- Compact licenses are offered to nurses only. They are not available for CNAs.
- A compact license is a specific type of multi-state license. Even if an IntelyPro is licensed in a state that allows compact licenses, they will not be able to work in a different state unless they have this specific type of license.
How does an IntelyPro Upload their Compact License?
- There is currently no specific option for uploading a compact license. Instead, an IntelyPro must upload their compact license as a state license.
- For example, if the IntelyPro wants to work in Florida, they should upload their compact license as a Florida license.
- This process can be repeated for every state the IntelyPro wants to work on.
- Please inform the IntelyPro that they will only be able to see shifts within 100 miles of their listed address, regardless of if they have licenses for other states.
Benefits
The Nursing Licensure Compact removes complications for nurses practicing in multiple states. Nurses from NLC states are able to work across state lines without having to worry about applying for licensure in each state or being burdened by multiple renewal requirements and fees. With more nurses practicing across state lines, state boards of nursing are coordinating now more than ever before.
Eligibility
- The approved compact license does not guarantee the ability to work in all IntelyCare covered states. All license approvals are also subject to individual state background checks.
- The Credentialing Department will approve background checks.
- The standard background check process applies to each state.
